I came across an old book— have you read Grit by Angela Duckworth? Duckworth discusses the concept of grit as being a predictor of a person’s ability to be successful. She frames a hypothesis that what really drives success is not genius, but a special blend of passion and long-term perseverance for achieving one’s goals. Grit, she says, is “sticking to your future, day-in-day-out” and “living life like its a marathon, not a sprint”. One of my favorite sentiments she shares is that of the growth mindset: “The ability to learn [and succeed] is not fixed. It can change with your effort.” For an abbreviated version, check out her TED Talk. It’s 6 minutes and worth a listen :)
