Happy New Year! Ringing in 2019
Happy New Year! Last night, it was crazy to think we were ringing in 2019. 2018 was an eventful and important year. I finished my first full year in a new job, took a deeper dive into my artwork and fundraising for No Kid Hungry, and made it both a personal and professional goal to do more in my community.
I like to set resolutions. In 2019, my goals:
Take stock: End each day with some quiet time to reflect on what I am thankful for in the day. It could be the smallest thing. For example, today, I’m thankful for waking up super early and having an hour to myself to update my website and write. A couple years ago, I used to do this regularly and it helped me feel centered. In 2018, I didn’t do it very consistently which is why I’m making it a goal to do it this year. Taking stock of the little things helps me think about what is going well and what I can be doing better.
Write more, cook more: These go hand-in-hand as I’d like to cook more this year and write about new recipes on my blog. While I love trying new places in my neighborhood, I’d also like to improve my cooking skills. So this year will hopefully be a balance of writing about both: trying new restaurants and new recipes.
Continue fundraising: In 2018, I was fortunate to meet like-minded folks and raise funds for No Kid Hungry. No Kid Hungry implements food programs in underserved public schools. Their goal is to end childhood hunger in the US. I organized and hosted happy hours, dinners, and art sales, donating 100% of proceeds to No Kid Hungry — I want to continue these efforts and make them even bigger this year.
